Marble Cake Recipe – Simple Chocolate Marble Cake

Marble cake is a mix of vanilla and chocolate flavour. This cake can have many attractive designs with streaks of chocolate giving a marble appearance. Hence the name marble cake. This cake is rich in butter and has an amazing appetizing taste and smell.

Useful Tips for preparing marble cake

  • All ingredient used must be at room temperature
  • Always  use unsalted butter
  • Replacing 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour (from 1 ½ cup) with 2 tbsp milk powder can add more flavour to your cake. 
  • Adding cashew nuts into the batter will bring in more flavour.

How to cook marble cake

Dry ingredients

  • Mix flour, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Sieve the above mix for 2 to 3 times. This mixes baking powder and baking soda evenly with flour. 

Wet Ingredients

  • Take the butter (at room temperature) and beat using an electric beater.  No electric beater, no worries, you can use a hand whisk. Beat until it is fluffy. 
  • Add powdered sugar in 3 intervals to the butter. Beat until the mixture becomes creamy. 
  • Add 2 eggs one after the other and beat for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add vanilla essence to the above mix and beat nicely.
  • Finally add the sieved flour mixture and 1 cup milk in 3 intervals and beat in slow speed or mix using a spatula.. 
  • To mix the batter evenly, use a spatula. Vanilla portion of the batter is now ready.

Preparing the chocolate portion

  •  Add  the cocoa powder in 2 tbsp in a separate bowl and mix  nicely. This step is to remove any lumps.
  • Take 1/3rd portion of the vanilla batter into another bowl and add the above chocolate  mix. 
  • Mix it evenly to get the chocolate portion of the batter

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius.
  • To the greased pan, pour the vanilla and cocoa portions at regular intervals to attain your desired design.
  • Since the white portion is more, you can pour 3 to 4 tbsp of white batter followed by 2 to 3 tbsp of chocolate butter. Use a skewer or fork and draw a design of your choice on the batter. 
  • Tap the cake tin multiple times to remove any air bubbles if present.
  • Place the baking tray or tin in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes
  • After 40 minutes insert a skewer (toothpick) into the cake and check if it’s ready. If it comes out clean, then your cake is ready. 
  • Take out the cake from the oven and let it to cool completely.

Greasing Techniques

  • It is preferred to grease the bottom and sides of the baking tray with oil or butter
  • Place a butter paper at the bottom and grease the top of the butter paper slightly.
  • Dust a small portion of the all-purpose flour on the bottom and sides of the tray. 
  • Pat nicely to remove any excess flour on the tray.
  • Grease the baking tray and make it ready before starting with batter preparations.

Marble cake design

  • Chocolate buttercream is the preferred topping for a marble cake.
  • Take 100 gram of butter at room temperature, beat until it is fluffy.
  • To the butter add 1 ½ cup powdered sugar and beat for 5 to 10 minutes until the mix is creamy. 
  • Add 2 tbsp melted dark chocolate and beat for 2-3 minutes.
  • Buttercream is now ready and you can spread the cream on top of your marble cake.
